Welcome to Frances Byrd Art. I am a wife, boy mom, and artist. I am somewhat obsessed with birds, which will become apparent as you browse my portfolio.
I live in a rural community, but I am not a conventional housewife. I keep chickens and work in the garden when not in the studio, and I dabble in MMA for personal fitness. Most of these interests inform my art and all contribute to who I am as a person.
I have always drawn, but did not learn classical painting until I took an intro level class in college. I earned a Bachelors degree in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, including printmaking, which I love, and some computer skills, which I never embraced.
This background heavily influences my aesthetic style and preference for creating art that tells a story. After taking the Intro to Painting class my last semester, I realized traditional oil painting was my medium of choice. I have developed many other skills over the years through trial and error as well.
One of the main things I have learned in recent years is that other people’s advice and expectations can become a burden. I have wasted too much time trying to work within existing markets or make art that other people think they could help me sell. My art should tell my story, after all, and promote the message that I want to share with the world. As a result, I have set my focus on painting the two things I love the most: birds and fine art portraiture. The birds are well under way, and I have a general concept for the portraiture.
I have a best friend who is an exceptional photographer. We have so many things in common, least of all a passion for using our art to promote individual beauty and female empowerment. We have embarked on a partnership, #wildwomancollaboration, to promote these concepts and lift up one another’s creative businesses. Through our passion and vision, we hope to show other women the beauty they bring to the world, tell their individual story, and help them grow in their creative talents as well.

In the future, I will have a web address specific to this page, as I go through the process of shutting down my old site and transitioning to new projects. Thank you for visiting, and for your patience as I make this transition.
